Getting rid of calluses

Calluses, everyone has them. They are actually a protective layer that forms on sensitive areas of your body, but sometimes they can become painful or excessive. Are you curious about how they develop? Perhaps even more importantly, how to get rid of them? We’ll tell you!

What is a callus?

A callus is essentially a thickening of the skin. The top layer of the skin forms an extra layer to provide additional protection to sensitive areas. Many people have calluses on their heels, and they are also commonly seen on the hands, especially in people who work with their hands. There’s nothing wrong with having a layer of callus. In fact, it is important. If you remove too much, it can actually become painful. Calluses serve an important function.

Excessive callus

Excessive calluses often occur on the feet. They can be painful and even cause a burning sensation. Both too much and too little callus can cause problems. Calluses form in areas where there is a lot of pressure, such as the sides of the toes and the heel.

Causes of excessive callus

Here are some causes to consider:

  • Standing and walking for long periods: Standing or walking for extended periods puts pressure on the feet, leading to thickening of the skin.
  • Overweight: Increased weight puts more pressure on the feet, increasing the likelihood of callus formation.
  • Aging: As you get older, your skin becomes drier, increasing the risk of excessive callus formation.
  • Ill-fitting shoes: Wearing shoes without socks, tight shoes, narrow soles, or even small socks can contribute to extra callus formation.

How to remove calluses

Calluses can be easily removed using various methods. If the callus is very hard, soaking your feet in a foot bath before starting any of these methods can be helpful.

Foot file: When it comes to removing calluses, a foot file is your best friend. Rinse your feet thoroughly after filing and apply a cream to moisturize. Soft feet guaranteed.

Callus cream: This cream contains ingredients that soften the callus, making it easier to remove.

Vinegar: Mix one part vinegar with three parts water. Rub this mixture over the callus. Put on socks and let it soak overnight. The next morning, you can easily remove it with a foot file. You can also substitute vinegar with lemon.
