This is what you can do against excessive sweating

Sweaty armpits, we all experience them from time to time. Sweating is very normal during physical activity, exercise, emotions, and stress. Excessive sweating can be quite bothersome. Here’s what you can do about it.

Sweat

Let’s go back to the basics: how does sweat work, and when is it considered excessive? Everyone has between 2 to 4 million sweat glands spread throughout the body, with a whopping 4% of these glands located under the armpits. Sweat itself doesn’t smell. The interaction with bacteria on the skin is what causes the Odor.

When sweating is perceived as unpleasant, we refer to it as excessive sweating. You may experience excessive sweating and the Odor that is often seen as unpleasant. Excessive sweating can occur all over the body, but it is most common under the armpits, feet, and hands.

Symptoms of excessive sweating

  • Excessive sweating with little to no exertion
  • Sweat stains on clothing, needing to change clothes multiple times a day
  • Sweat attacks
  • Unpleasant body Odor
  • Irritated skin

Prevention

Hygiene

Personal hygiene is especially important when dealing with excessive sweating. Use a pH-neutral soap or shower gel to cleanse the skin. Make sure to dry the skin thoroughly. Bacteria on the skin contribute to the unpleasant Odor, and by drying the skin properly, you reduce the chance for bacteria to thrive.

Clothing

Consider the fabrics you wear. Synthetic materials like nylon don’t breathe well, which can lead to an unpleasant Odor. Opt for cotton, wool, or linen fabrics that allow better breathability and absorb sweat. You can also choose to carry an extra shirt with you to change into if you have perspired.

Shoes

If you have sweaty feet, walking barefoot is the best option. Of course, that’s not always feasible, so choose leather shoes that provide better breathability. Also, opt for socks made of breathable fabric.

Don’t be afraid to sweat

Emotions also play a significant role in sweating. You may have experienced sweaty palms due to anxiety. The more you stress about sweating, the more you tend to sweat. Everyone deals with this, and it’s completely normal.

Deodorant

Not every deodorant works effectively when you sweat a lot. It’s best to choose an antiperspirant deodorant. Try one that contains aluminium salts. This particular ingredient helps inhibit sweat production.
