Decadent chocolate cake recipe

  • 7 fl oz. boiling water

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder 
  • 4 fl oz. milk 

For the chocolate ganache: 

  • 5 oz. dark chocolate, chopped 
  • 4 fl oz. double cream 

Instructions: 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a round cake tin with butter or line it with parchment paper. 
  • In a heatproof bowl, pour the boiling water over the chopped dark chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth. Set aside to cool slightly. 
  • In a separate mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy. 
  • Gradually add the beaten eggs to the butter and sugar mixture, whisking continuously. 
  • Sift the self-raising flour and cocoa powder into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Gently fold the mixture until well combined. 
  • Pour in the melted chocolate mixture and fold it into the cake batter until smooth and evenly incorporated. 
  • Transfer the batter into the prepared cake tin and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. 
  • While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate ganache by heating the double cream in a saucepan until it starts to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chopped dark chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has melted and the ganache is smooth. 
  • Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. 
  • Once the cake has cooled, generously spread the chocolate ganache over the top and sides of the cake.
